As i stood on line on November 4th 2008, all i can think about was making history. Participating in the election that puts the first black man in the Oval Office. It brought a sense of pride over my soul to know that we as black people have a legitimate candidate to become president. In the next few hours we could very well have the first Commander-In-Chief that looks like us. Its just such exciting and hopeful times. I could only think about the future and how optimistic it looks. The past 8 years have been bleak. Our country has been through some much in the past 8 years, that is totally made me question our government system and the "powers that be" and whether i not i believe in this thing we call America, ya know that "all men created equal bullshit" and "liberty and justice for all". When you have cops killing black men for nothing, young black kids on trial for responding to blatant racism in the span in for moments, it hard to believe that you actually have faith in your own country, let alone even feel like you are actually apart of this country. Sometimes it would be difficult to call myself "African-American" because i didnt identify with the American part. Even more puzzling, was i didnt identify with the "African" part either. Ive never been to Africa (i plan on going one day!). We all have African descent but i cant relate to Africa or the people. Half the Africans that live in this country have look at us "African-Americans with disdain because we piss away our resources and for other reasons. But this election has given me some pride for America, that maybe it could really be the place that it was intended to be or the way it SHOULD be, a melting pot of cultures and people and place where everyone can have the oppurtunity to fulfill their dreams. This election has restored my faith in America a little bit.
Seeing all ages and races standing in line to vote. This is how i envisioned it would be. To see little black kids in line with their parents meant the most to me. It must be great for kids to see someone that looks like them in control of THEIR country. Now, we can actually say "you can grow up and be anything you want, even the President of the United States!" That means something now, its a new day. That will do wonders for young people's self-esteem. So that now that can really set their standards high and achieve their goals. Young people can aspire to be anything they want and truly strive for more.
Barak Obama's victory against John McCain is so historic, its really difficult to put into words what this means for black people. We as a people have to now raise the bar; in every facet of life. Accountability must be placed upon every single person. We have to educate ourselves, show initiative and focus on the big picture which is the betterment of our people so that our kids can have a future. As much as its about right now, its even more paramount to secure our future and the only way to do that is to respect each other, keep a positive energy surrounding us, participate in politics so that we can change things and educate ourselves in the law, politics and any other thing in life. We must put the petty stuff to the side. The violence and the broken homes have to cease. Fathers need to be responsible and take care of and guide their family. Lift up our sisters instead of putting them down and disrespecting them. Black women have to be there for us black men to help us and be our backbone, 'cause there is no future without the black woman. Women need to in turn respect themselves and not allow a man to dictate or break down their spirit in anyway you must be strong for the children and yourselves. With that said, we just need to be a race about substance and not dwelling on things that dont matter like material things and need to focus on positive things to uplift our people. We need to watch more PBS instead VH1, read more Black Enterprise instead of Vibe, we need to visit CNN instead of mediatakeout and facebook everyday. Im not above any of these critiques because we have to start with ourselves and help ourselves before we can help anyone else.
What does this do for Race Relations??? How crazy it is for me to see Obama buttons and bumper sticks on white people. Wait a minute!! i thought all whites hated us and were racist?? 61% of Obama's votes came from white people! There wasnt enough black people in this nation to put Obama in office, so he need whites, asians, latinos and african americans to get behind him to win and thats what he did! I guess it isnt about race anymore, this country needed a drastic change PERIOD! These white presidents have had control forever and you see what kinda job they've done thus far, so lets give this black man a chance and see how good he does. WOW! How bad did George Bush fuck up to where the country has gotten behind a black man?!! LMAO! I know the slave masters are rolling over in the MFing graves after this one. LOL! I mean its about time, dont you think? When are we gonna be able to experience that American Dream? That whole "all men are created equal" was not written with black people in mind or any other race for the matter but Caucasians. This was a long time coming. THIS IS FOR all the civil rights movement participants, all the activists, the Black Panthers, the countless people that died behind the advancement of black people. The hosing and the dogs and the beatings and the killings the racial profling, the affirmative action recipients, the unjustly enprisoned soldiers, the political prisoner. The martin luther kings, the marcus garveys, the w.e.b. dubois, the booker ts, malcom x's, the muhammed ali's, the rosa parks, the harriet tubmans. I mean this for all of them!! its enough to make you wanna cry, to know that FINALLY FINALLY everything that those great people stood up for and what they did and the ones that gave their lives, that finally it all paid off!
They told us that this day would never come. Its time to hit the reset button, people. Everything that we thought was true or everything that they told us and we believed can now be erased. We arent slow, we arent stupid, we arent only criminals and baby makers, we arent only athletes, or nurses and janitors. We are the muthafuckin leaders of YOUR COUNTRY and of the most powerful country in the world! Now its not up to just Obama. We cant just look at him as our savior like he is Jesus. We have to help him first, we have to help ourselves. Stand for something. He cannot fix all these problems himself, its gonna take a joint effort from ALOT of people. The asians, whites, latinos, all of us. We have to put our petty grievances aside and stand together for the greater good. This country is floundering and what better person to represent the new era, new age, the new revolution than Barak Obama. He can excite a people, a country, the world. This must does wonders for how the rest of the world views America. No longer is America cheaters and bullys, the underdog is on top now. Obama worked hard and fought for that election and he deserves it! And isnt that how it is suppose to work??
Its just so inspiration and motivational. Those wonderful words. "I present to you the First Family of The United States of America" and a black family walked out! OMG i will never forget that moment, the emotional that came to me was unexplainable. The impossible had just been made the possible. When that happens, the sky is the limit for anyone that believes. This the revolution that this country needs, but not blacks against whites. All of us white and black will make a united stand against the unjust and amoral. Its about right versus wrong. poor versus rich. have and the have nots. Because even white people shit is fucked up right now, people losing their 401Ks, social security not gonna be around, people losing out on dow jones nasdaq stock exchange money. so everyone is effected right now. So we all need to make a stand and get behind and stay behind Barak Obama. This might have the greatest day in America's history for it has finally fulfilled its potential and made due on promise that was decreed 235 years ago. That all men are created equal. and that everyone man, woman and child deserve to chance at the pursuit of happiness and prosperity and all that bullshit, well now its realized through Barak Obama. America has finally grown up! Peace Out Yall!!
yES WE Can & yes we mothafuckin did!
